Description

In my training earlier today, I was told that it was always difficult dealing with the new lycanthropes. Especially the ones who had been abandoned. Or had to leave their packs for one reason or another.

If the economy hadn’t been so bad, I would have laughed when this job was offered. But I was desperate. I would take anything. So… I got landed here. Once I realized it was all for real, I wanted out. But Dr. Seamous Theiss somehow convinced me to stay, even though I just wanted nothing more than to crawl under the covers and never come back out again. Maybe working here would help me get over it. This place… it was sort of a halfway house. We offered a safe place for the eldritch sorts. But we were repaid with information. The people who came here had to go through a few tests, answer some questions… we got the data we were looking for by offering them help. Fair trade.

I kind of wondered where the good doctor got the money to pay the rest of the staff and myself with.

Tonight though, I was the only one behind the counter. The girl who was in the waiting area looked terrified, she kept her head down, her shoulders hunched up in her red hoodie. I had to bite my tongue to keep from asking if she’d gotten it from a little girl walking through the woods. But in spite of her anxious pacing, Seamous was chatting, keeping her calm. Like a freaking paranormal Steve Irwin. I guess that’s why he ran the place. He seemed so okay with them, but I honestly didn’t trust the fuzzy types. How can something look so nonthreatening as the scared girl on the opposite side of the desk be… be one of them? God, she hadn’t even put her shoes back on from when we’d asked her to Change, so we could get a photo.

I was relieved when I finished entering the data into the computer, and told the machine to start printing and laminating the card.

The whirr of the machine caught the girl’s attention, and she snapped her gaze on it. God, she looked too young to even be out of college. And yet in spite of her short stature and freckles, her gaze was predatory. However, after a moment, she looked away, and continued her pacing while Seamous continued telling her about her weaknesses, things she should avoid, coping techniques. And of course, offering her a ‘room’ during the full moon.

By that, he meant a cell. A nice cell, but it was still concrete and bars. We still hadn’t managed to purchase the woods adjacent to the property.

When the printer was done, I set the card, still hot from lamination, on the counter. Part of me didn’t want to risk touching her by handing it to her. Odds are I’d have to sometime though… the card was her ticket into our facility. It meant she could come and go as she pleased.

Seamous pointed, and the girl perked up, looking my direction, then at the card. She looked downright timid as she walked up, and pulled the card from the counter. I figured she’d be happy and just leave. But instead she frowned.

”What’s wrong?” I asked, even though I didn’t really want to.

”This is the best picture you could take of me?” she looked up at me, her hood sliding back a little.

”Well, I…” I looked at the photo I’d selected. Maybe I should have picked a calmer looking photo, instead f the snarling one.

The girl shook her head, then laughed. She had a nice laugh. I didn’t really expect that from a werewolf. “I don’t believe this. It doesn’t matter what the photo is for, if an ID shot is taken, it always turns out terrible.”

I laughed. You know, she was right.

This is just a little wallet card ID thingie I made for myself. In fandom situations, I plan to use a double-sided version as a business card.

Special thanks to my dad for helping me with the fake paranormal research logo thingie. The logo is a math joke. An m shape (sometimes with a line over it) is the symbol for a mean. A mean is also called the norm. Two norms makes a pair of norms. Pairanorms. Paranormal. MM. Get it? Maybe I'm just too much of a dork.

EDIT:

Just to make things clear: YES, you CAN make your own werewolf licence. The art police won't get you, because NO one can copyright the idea of a licence/registration/ID card. That's just silly. HOWEVER, The make-believe company, character, the card layout, etc are mine. This is NOT to be used as a template for anyone but myself. If you need a template, please use your driver's licence. Thanks!
