Dorchah, like his mother Saygneahn and his adopted brother Syoc, is an anomaly amongst his kind… partially due to his size, which is much larger than many other Rayghoul, but mostly because of his strange, dark coloration. Rayghoul are a colorful, vibrant species of infinite variations of bright colors, which they can dull while hunting. Dorchah, sadly is naturally very darkly colored, save for his fin, which matches the color of his eyes. Hints of other colors, primarily blues, can be seen in his hide, but they just don’t show the vibrancy of other Rayghoul. The dark colors also, sadly, prevent him from getting easily seen identifying ‘henna’ markings, so his accomplishments and status are kept on record on the side of his leather doorflap to his hut. These differences, as well as the loss of his three other siblings when he was young has led Dorcha to feel a bit bitter toward the world, and he is somewhat of a ‘problem child’ in his Teaglach (tribe). He’s a bit more aggressive than his kind usually is, and quite enjoys playing pranks. He is put up with because one, he is the son of the Teaglach’s matriarch, and two, he has an amazingly good sounding voice, and charismatic charm to go with it. Rayghoul love sound, and language is an art form to them… so these qualities make him very endearing, in spite of his dark coloration. Many other Rayghoul often muse that Dorchah and Syoc are around to balance one another. Whereas Dorchah plays tricks, Syoc helps the elders. Where Syoc acts brashly, Dorchah thinks to solve a problem. And whereas Syoc is reluctant to fight when the threat of the Evoroc comes to plague their land, Dorchah is the first to stand up and fight. Yeah, super cheap digital background. I’ve been meaning to draw this guy for a long while and had even intended to do so before I’d drawn his mother. Wheras Syoc appealed to me when I first came up with him as a little girl, I find that Dorchah is equally appealing now that I’m older. |
